Stock Transmission
2006–2007 LBZ Duramax trucks with stock transmission components are suggested not to exceed 150 additional HP over stock. Exceeding this on a stock transmission can lead to premature transmission failure.

Built Transmission
For trucks equipped with built transmission components, higher power levels are available.

PPEI tuning for the 2006–2007 LBZ Duramax can be installed using:
- EFILive AutoCal V2 / V3
- EFILive FlashScan V2 / V3
- Edge Insight+ for engine tuning flashing only
Important Compatibility Notes:
- Edge Insight+ does not support Transmission Tuning
- Edge Insight+ is not compatible with modified trucks equipped with aftermarket injectors, injection pumps, turbos, or other engine modifications
- For modified trucks, PPEI recommends EFILive for the best tuning capabilities at this time
Recommended Supporting Upgrades
To help your LBZ Duramax perform at its best, PPEI also recommends pairing your tuning with supporting upgrades such as a Banks Ram-Air Cold Air Intake and a FASS Fuel System lift pump.
The Banks Ram-Air Cold Air Intake for the LBZ Duramax is designed to be significantly less restrictive than stock while helping improve airflow, lower intake air temperatures, reduce EGTs, and decrease soot output.
What does PPEI’s tuning do for my LBZ Duramax
- Tuning is intended to increase the horsepower (hp) and torque (tq) the engine can produce. OEM manufacturers, like GM, show vehicle hp and tq based on the amount of power produced by the engine, at the engine, which is 360 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.
- PPEI, unlike the OEM, measures hp and tq at the wheel. What does that mean? – It means PPEI measures power that the vehicle produces to the ground showing the amount of powertrain loss from the engine, through the transmission, to the wheels. PPEI refers to this as the “baseline,” in this case, for the LBZ Duramax, we measured 315-wheel hp and 615-wheel tq. The baseline shows a powertrain loss of 45 hp and 35 lb-ft of tq.
- PPEI’s primary focus when tuning or creating a calibration is focusing on the overall efficiency. Many individuals search for the most horsepower & torque and view it as the “best tuning,” however, more times than not, it’s quite the opposite. Many tuners advertise tuning based on the highest hp & tq, surpassing the threshold of efficiency. When the threshold of efficiency is overpowered, issues start showing up, which can be as minor as poor fuel economy or as significant as transmission and engine failure.

- PPEI’s LBZ calibrations may produce up to an additional 200-wheel horsepower above the OEM baseline. PPEI’s LBZ performance calibration brings the overall horsepower up to 515-wheel hp and 920 lb-ft of torque. Furthermore, PPEI offers a seamless method to change between 5 different power levels (tunes).
