HP Tuners Universal Credits are used to license vehicle modules before tuning can be performed with HP Tuners hardware. HP Tuners operates on a credit-based system where credits act as currency to unlock access to specific controllers within a vehicle, such as the ECM/PCM, TCM, or other supported modules.
The number of credits required varies by vehicle and controller type. Many platforms require two credits to license the ECM/PCM, with additional credits needed for modules such as the TCM, FICM, or CCM depending on the application. Once a module is licensed, it remains licensed permanently on that interface as long as the VIN, operating system, and serial number do not change.
Licenses are stored directly on your HP Tuners interface and tied to your account. A single interface can hold thousands of vehicle licenses and can be used across all supported platforms.
Once you own an MPVI3, you can read, view, edit, and save files without using credits. Credits are only required when you are ready to write a new file to a vehicle. The MPVI3 also supports remote tuning workflows, allowing files to be delivered via email or through HP Tuners’ Tune Delivery Network when working with professional tuning shops.
